The largest star sapphire in the world is stolen in China and smuggled to the United States. The gem turns up in the possession of a wealthy gem collector. Soon after, the collector receives a death threat, and knowing the jewel's reputation for being cursed, calls in Mr. Wong (Karloff) to investigate. Mr. Wong arrives in the middle of the collector's party, and soon after being presented with all the clues to the case, the collector is murdered when the lights go out briefly. It's up to Mr. Wong to solve the new murder case and also discover the location of the now-missing jewel.
