Flying ace Matt Brennan takes a job as test pilot for aircraft designer Carl Troxell as much to be close to his wartime girlfriend as for the thrill of the job. But when Troxell asks Brennan to test an escape pod for jet pilots, Brennan balks, saying the design is too dangerous. Instead, Brennan goes on a glamorous and less-risky flight over the North Pole, leaving Troxell to die testing his new design. Now, Brennan will risk his life to prove Troxell's escape pod works.
