From the Daily Dot

Netflix's The After Party is a "one crazy night" movie. It's a buddy movie. It's a coming-of-age-movie. Unfortunately, it's not sure which one to focus on. The WorldStarHipHop-produced film follows aspiring rapper Owen (Kyle Harvey, aka KYLE), trying to break into the industry and freestyling for anybody who will listen, including, at one point, Wiz Khalifa. Meanwhile, he lusts after his best friend/manager Jeff's sister Alicia, as he has since they were kids. The After Party doesn't have the weight of a movie like 8 Mile, and it treats women like conquests who only exist to give men confidence. The result is a product that's more about reference than narrative or insight.
