Wall Street tycoon Sherman McCoy takes a wrong turn in his Mercedes, gets lost in the Bronx, and runs down a poor African-American teenager. Rather than stop in a dangerous neighborhood, he leaves the boy to die. But this act of callow brutality begins a chain of events that will rock the global center of capitalism and shatter the self-indulgent, greedy life that Sherman McCoy had believed was untouchable.
